Fun. has signed to Fueled By Ramen.
Letter from vocalist Nate Reuss:
“Oh hi there,
Hope all of your summers are going swimmingly. I feel like it’s been a long time since we’ve been on tour, and an even longer time since I’ve posted anything, so I thought I’d give a brief update on what we’ve been up to since we got off of tour in June…
Actually, I’ll start by saying thanks to everyone who came out to the non stop shows we played for 5 straight months. That was pretty intense, and so worth it because of you guys. I’ve never toured that extremely and I have to say that I came back a better person with even more appreciation for what we get to do.
After that whole thing, plus the one show we did in Chicago last week, I couldn’t be more psyched for the headlining tour! Seriously, is that going to be awesome, or what? I get so giddy about it. It’s been almost a year since our last headlining tour, and I get a huge grin every time I think about how special this upcoming one is.
The way it looks right now, that will most likely be our last before we head into the studio to start working on the follow up to “aim and ignite.” I’ve been writing like mad the last month, and I don’t plan on stopping until we step into the studio. I wish I could give you some details, but Id rather keep everything under wrap till it’s all done, or at least until some of these weird babies of ideas start to become more fully realized. I do hope we have a new song or two for the next tour.
Speaking of the new record, I’d like to take a second and touch on the worst kept secret in the history of secrets….
We are uber excited to announce we are taking our talents to “fueled by ramen” records. Where they should help put us in a pretty sweet position to continue to try and grow.
This has been in the works for almost 9 months, when the head of the label (someone who’s reached out to me since even before I was in the format) did his bi-annual “check-in just to have the door slammed in his face”. Except the difference is, this time we took the time to listen to what he had to say….
I haven’t been involved with a label in almost 6 years. And to be honest, I never had any intention to go back. But it really means something when you’ve been able to watch a label grow over the years, and just continue to grow, with massive commercial success, while maintaining some of the ethics and understanding of what it means to be an independent artist…
When the people who work for fueled by ramen buy their own tickets to our shows and talk about us with the passion you’d generally reserve for an artist you’re working with, that really means something.
So after lengthy discussions, we figured, why not? This is the perfect time for us to give it a try. And I wouldn’t worry about us “selling out” or changing for the wrong reasons. When the format first started, it was tough because we didn’t know who we were yet. We were signed with the belief that we would appease the label and be a commercial success. As we grew, we realized that those weren’t our goals, and since then, from a personal writing standpoint, I’ve always been a little bit “different”, and I think that’s a big reason they wanted to start working with us. They’re here to help put us in a position that would allow more people to hear us.
And that’s what we’d like. So that’s that.
Argggg. All of this talk about labels is making me thirsty. I’m gonna go grab a lemonade. Once again, thank you for all of the support. Can’t wait to see you guys in a few months!
Oh, and if you haven’t purchased the new steel train yet, you’re crazy. I’m a competitive person, so for me to say that it’s the best record of the year, prolly means that it’s my favorite record of the last 5 years. Truly inspiring. Run, don’t walk over to their website.

Nate”
I’m not too sure how I feel about this yet. I love Fun., and don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of some FBR bands [Forgive Durden, Gym Class Heroes, This Providence], but I hope that when I see Fun. live that I don’t have to deal with the usual FBR-show crowd [14-year-olds with bad attitudes]. That being said, I hope they bring some different fans to the FBR-crowd, and that their subsequent albums don’t fail [which seems to be a running trend with FBR bands].
Congrats Fun., make us proud.

Whole Foods has implemented a new employee discount program. The amount of discount directly reflects BMI, cholesterol, and smoking status of each employee. As you can see in the chart above, there are four different “categories” that an employee can fall into, and based on which category the employee is in, their discount ranges between 22 and 30%. If employees decide not to participate in this program, they still receive their 20% discount.
I’m still on the fence about this program. I understand that Whole Foods prides itself on being healthy, and who wants to buy healthy food from someone who doesn’t practice a healthy lifestyle? But, I think it is unfair because BMI is such an unreliable measure of weight.

Envy On The Coast [A.K.A the best band to ever grace the music industry] have decided to call it quits. Instead of trying to sum it all up, I’ll post what Ryan had to say about the situation:
To anyone and everyone who’s ever supported us:
The day has come to pull down that curtain down. Sal and Jer sat down with Brian and I about a week ago and informed us that they are leaving Envy on the Coast. They explained that they are no longer happy being a part of this, and there was nothing Brian and I could do or say to change that. Because Envy on the Coast was founded upon the musical and personal relationships between the four of us, Brian and I have decided that we would rather move forward rather than finding musicians to replace Sal and Jer.
I can’t say I’m all that shocked by this, nor am I upset. At some point in your life, you have to stop saying, “But I never expected this to happen to me!?” For me, that day came when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately, after she beat it, I took with me the knowledge that anything and everything can and will happen to you…and you should welcome those hurdles because they will make you stronger. At the end of the day, some marriages fail, some people win the lottery, and some people get struck by lightening. You can trust someone with every ounce of yourself, but a lot of men are the center of their own universe, and that’s something I’ve learned to cope with. I shouldn’t have said I wasn’t upset. There are aspects of this whole situation that have upset me, but there’s no use in dwelling on that when we have so much to be proud of.
When we started this band, we had no idea what we were doing, nor what we wanted to accomplish. Like most bands, we hopped in a van and vowed to stick together and figure it out along the way. In a very short time frame, we decided we wanted to preserve integrity, credibility, and put our art at the forefront above all else. We knew turning down certain opportunities would sometimes leave us broke and maybe regretful, for some of us, but we knew it wasn’t within our capability to compromise. Sure, we did a lot of things we were apprehensive about at first, but on ‘Lowcountry’, our most recent effort, I can proudly say we made something that was 100% us. We played ball for a few years, but not on that record; we did what we wanted. We wrote the songs we wanted to write, the way wanted to write them. We shot the video we wanted with the creative individuals who we entrusted to do it with. We did it all our way. I don’t care how many copies it sold, because I’ve got a lot of acquaintances who have sold a shit-ton more records than I may ever sell, but they don’t sleep as well as I do at night.
I’ve toured with the flavors of the week. I’ve watched teenagers place “band dudes” up on pedestals, not for the music they make, but for the aura they omit. I’ve seen the looks in our fans eyes. I know that this little band meant something to you. I know that all of our sacrifice, all of our struggle, and all of our hard work was worth it. I know that we didn’t have to tweet what the fuck we were doing every hour of the day in order to stay connected with our fans. They stayed connected to us through our music, regardless of where we were or what we were doing. You understood. You got it.
Brian and I decided a long time ago that we wanted to be artists. That can mean a lot of things, but to us it just means we want to keep making art and music together. And that’s what we plan on doing. I doubt anyone’s mentally ready to swallow “what’s next” yet, so we’ll just leave it at that for now. In the coming weeks, we’ll be announcing our three final shows and together, we will celebrate the the death of something beautiful. Thank you all for being a part of this.
-Ryan
I am very, very, very sad to see this band go. I have been a huge fan since the end of my sophomore year in high school, and I cannot express how amazing this band was/is. I will never forget the live shows, or the people I met. I know that this isn’t the last we’ll see of some of the members, and I definitely know that Envy On The Coast will always have a place in my heart, and on my iPod.

Supposedly Lea Michele [Rachel], Cory Monteith [Finn], Dianna Argon [Quinn], and Mark Salling [Puck], along with other regular actors, signed on for up to three films based on the hit TV show when they signed their contracts.
Here is the wording from the contract:
“[The actor] hereby grants Fox three exclusive, irrevocable options to engage [the actor] in up to, respectively, three feature-length motion pictures.”
I really hope they decide not to do movies. I definitely think it would ruin the appeal of the show.

Hulu, a video-streaming website that allows you to access to all your favorite TV shows, is expected to introduce a subscription service as early as May 24th.
The cost? It depends on what episodes you’re watching.
If you are watching the past 5 or 6 episodes, you won’t be paying. But if you are like me, and only on the 3rd season of Lost, you will be paying about $10 to access these past episodes.
I don’t know, but it seems a bit ridiculous. Hulu, you are bringing in $100 million–work with me.
I guess I’m just going to have to finish Lost before May 24th!

Miley Cyrus is “quitting” music!
“I have a record coming out in June and that’s going to be the last thing I do in music for a while. I just want to do films ’cause I like being someone else. My music is kind of like my diary. I’ll always do that … I just feel like the music industry isn’t as positive as I’d like it to be.”
Darn.
We’ll see if her acting skills are any better than her singing skills when The Last Song hits theaters on March 31st.

University of Portland graduate Molly Hightower was on the 5th floor of the orphanage she was volunteering at through Friends of the Orphans when the earthquake struck. Sadly, she did not survive the quake. She was found in the remaining rubble on Thursday, and her family/friends were notified on Friday morning.
I can’t even begin to comprehend what her family and friends are going through right now, but my heart goes out to them as well as everyone else who has lost a loved one in the earthquake.
