Beastly

Trailer for Beastly, due out July 30th.

If you don’t know, the movie is based on the novel entitled Beastly by Alex Flinn, which is a re-telling of Beauty and The Beast.
I’ve heard good things about it, so I’ll probably pick it up fairly soon so I can read it before the movie comes out.

Anyways, I am already liking this movie.
I have faith that Vanessa Hudgens can prove me wrong with her acting in this [as opposed to the HSM series].
Neil Patrick Harris= love.
Mary-Kate Olsen is doing movies again!
Alex Pettyfer–adorable!

We’ll see!

Oscar noms are out!

I’ll only post a few categories, and who I think should win for each.

Best Picture:
Avatar
The Blindside
District 9
An Education
The Hurt Locker
Inglorious Basterds
Precious: Based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.
A Serious Man
Up
Up In The Air

My pick: Honestly, I’ve only seen District 9, but I doubt it was the “best” out of all these.
Probably will win: I’m betting that either Avatar, Precious, or Up In The Air will win.

Actor In A Supporting Role:
Matt Damon
Woody Harrelson
Christopher Plummer
Stanley Tucci
Christoph Waltz

My pick: Stanley Tucci. He did a beyond-fabulous job in The Lovely Bones.
Probably will win: Christoph Waltz for his role in Inglorious Basterds.

You can see the whole list of nominations here.
The Oscars will air on ABC on March 7th.

Now Playing: January

I think I am going to start listing/reviewing the movies I see. I won’t be including movies I have seen before, rather I’ll focus on those I’ve seen for the first time. I think breaking it down by month will be the easiest way to go about this. All the movies may not necessarily be “new” movies, but I have a huge list of “old” movies I have yet to see.

District 9
My rating: A-.
I really, really, really liked this movie. I thought it did a wonderful job of portraying the world and how we as humans tend to segregate those that are “different” from us. It really makes you think about how we function in society, which is why I enjoyed it so much. Plus, it was pretty funny at points.

Invictus
My rating: B.
I honestly can’t remember a whole lot about this movie, but I know I enjoyed it. It’s really well made, and the rugby scenes are to die for. I think I ended up crying at one point, but that didn’t shock me. Morgan Freeman was amazing.

Where The Wild Things Are
My rating: A.
I absolutely adored this movie. I grew up reading the book, and the movie was equally amazing.  It was a rather powerful movie, and the way in which it was film was interesting and different.
I cried, I laughed, I hurt at numerous times in the film, and it’s definitely one that I’ll be purchasing once it’s out on DVD.

The Lovely Bones
My rating: B.
I’m a HUGE fan of the book by Alice Sebold, but I think the movie kind of missed the mark. I mean, it was good for what it was, but it didn’t stay true enough to the book as I would’ve liked. It was made to be more of a murder-mystery than a focus-on-the-family. I think, as viewers, we missed out on a lot of the family tension and problems that were developed oh-so well in the book.

Pulp Fiction
My rating: B.
I went into this movie knowing that it’s ridiculously popular. I’m not about to say that it’s my favorite movie, but it was pretty good. Funny, random, and unique. I honestly don’t really quite understand what’s so “amazing” about it, but maybe I need to watch it again?

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Rating: A.
Absolutely loved this movie. It was nice to see Jim Carrey in a more “serious” (but still entertaining) role. Kate Winslet was fabulous as usual. It may just be the psychology-obsessed side of me, but I thought the premise of the film was absolutely genius. Perfect example of “you don’t know what you have until you lose it”.

Closer
My rating: A.
Yet another fabulous movie. I loved the fact that is was totally not PC, and it worked wonderfully. The acting was superb, almost to the point where I had to tell myself I was watching a movie and not someone’s actual life. I think Clive Owen was perfectly cast as an arrogant-cheater. I could go on, but I’ll spare you. Everything worked perfectly.

(500) Days of Summer
My rating: A/A+.
Seriously, hands down, probably one of my favorite movies ever. Aside from my love for Zooey Deschanel, it was fabulous. It was refreshing to see a “love story” that wasn’t like the typical “boy meets girl, they fall in love, they live happily ever after” scenario. Tom’s sister cracked me up, and I think everyone was perfectly cast for their roles. I also loved the non-chronological format, it made you pay attention, and also strung you along at points.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
My rating: D+.
Definitely not as funny as it was made out to be. I don’t understand the “gay-humor” that seems to be all the rage now-a-days. It’s annoying, and down-right rude most of the time. It had it’s moments, but I didn’t enjoy it enough to watch it again.

It has been announced that ABC’s ‘Ugly Betty’ will be no longer after this season.
Reason: ratings have been dropping (the show had 8.3 million viewers last year, and this year that number dropped to 5.3 million).

All I have to say>> :[

Orlando Bloom and ‘Pirates’ Part ways

Orlando Bloom has announced to MTV that he will not be reviving his role as Will Turner in the next installment of the ‘Pirates’ series.

I want to know who they will get to replace him. It’s definitely going to be weird having a new person play the part after 3 movies.

Avatar is highest grossing movie–ever.

Avatar has officially beat out Titanic for highest grossing movie of all time.
It has grossed $1.292 billion as of Sunday, beating Titanic by $50.1 million.

Worst Actress of 2009

I’m sure we could have all called this one–Megan Fox was voted the worst actress of 2009.

She’s even too full of herself to take criticism:
“I’ve done one movie. And it’s not a movie I want to stand on as far as acting ability goes. I mean, I’m not going to win an Oscar anytime soon. I’m not Meryl Streep.”
Courtesy of GQ Magazine.

Honestly, I don’t even think she’s that good-looking, but since she is supposedly ‘the hottest woman alive’, she’ll continue to stay on the radar.
Boo, world, boo.

Sex and The City 2

Hmmm.
I really hope it’s good.

Best Movies of 2009

Alright, I admit, I haven’t seen *too* many movies this year, but I think I’ve seen enough to make a “Best Movies of 2009″ list for my blog! [JSYK: I haven't seen any of the huge movies such as 'Up', 'Precious', 'Star Trek', 'Inglorious Bastards', or 'Avatar', so don't freak out that I didn't include them]

Agree? Disagree? Comment!

These are in no specific order.

‘The Hangover’
I think this is probably my favorite comedy, ever. If you haven’t seen it, you really need to. So much better than Superbad in that it’s a bit more than solid “raunchy” comedy, but there is a just enough of that as well. The fact that it takes something so common as a guy’s weekend in Vegas and turns it into a huge fiasco is hilarious. Huge thumbs up to this one.

‘Knowing’
This movie was truly terrifying. I think it played really well on the viewers fear of the unknown, and it did it very well. I know a lot of people are going to disagree with this one, but I really enjoyed it. The end was kind of *meh*, but I think it, in an odd way, worked out really well.

‘Milk’
So, this *technically* came out in 2009, January 30th I believe, so I’m putting it on here. I just watched it this past weekend, and I absolutely loved it. The casting was tremendously well-done, as was the acting. It didn’t shy away from being too “vulgar”, as some people would call it, and I give props to the actors for going all-out for this out. Truly touching and powerful film.

‘Paranormal Activity’
The hype over this movie before it’s wide-release was legitimately insane. I saw it the first day it was shown in the Portland-area and I still freak out at night. It was so simple, but so frightening. It took a place where we feel so safe, our homes and bedrooms, and turned it into a place of nightmares. I think it played with our imagination to the highest degree, and overall succeeded. Although it is fictional, yet was marketed as based on a true story, it has got to be one of the scariest films I have ever watched.

‘Coraline’
Fabulous. I had thought for the longest time that this was a Tim Burton film, but it’s not, but I still loved it. It was entertaining, but still a bit disturbing [from what I've heard, it stays pretty true to the book in that sense]. I tried to watch it in 3-D at home, but it just hurt my head, so who knows if that would’ve added to the movie at all. But, all in all, I really enjoyed the story and animation. Also, I am fairly sure that the town ‘Coraline’ takes place in is based on Ashland, OR, which is pretty cool.

Best TV Shows of 2009

Just so you know:
-This won’t be very long, due to the fact that there are only a few new shows in 2009 that deserve to be on this list.
-This is based on my opinion–so if you disagree, so be it! If you feel so inclined, post a comment!
-These are in no specific order.

Glee
Channel: FOX
Time: 9 PM
I absolutely love this show. I think it taps into high school so perfectly, and I also think a lot of people are going to relate to it. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve been shocked, and I’ve had goosebumps. The voices of Rachel Berry [Lea Michele] and Mercedes Jones [Amber Riley] are out of this world, and if you haven’t been watching this show–you need to start. It’s currently ‘off air’ and will return in April [boo!].

Modern Family
Channel: ABC
Time: 9 PM
I’m sure everyone has heard about this show, but if you haven’t–watch it! It’s beyond hilarious in a more ‘subtle’ way, I guess. The way the families interact is relatable, and their lives are almost too relatable at times, but that’s what’s so genius about the show. I’m sure many new parents have bumped their kids head and freaked out, as well as had to teach their teen daughter how to drive. Definitely relatable, definitely funny.

The Middle
Channel: FOX
Time: 8:30 PM

Again, a super funny show. I think my favorite part of the show is the younger son, Brick [Atticus Schaffer]. I don’t know what it is about him, but the way he acts is hilarious. Again, the way the family interacts is pretty relatable for middle America. The daughter, Sue [Eden Sher], kind of drives me nuts, but oh well.
